Calculated from place and time
Daylight Now combines the city’s coordinates and IANA time zone with the current time and SunCalc solar geometry. It is a daylight tool, not a weather forecast, and needs no weather API key.

Desktop, tablet and mobile layouts share the same information hierarchy, responsive daylight scenes and contrast-preserving frosted-glass surfaces. Core controls also support keyboard use.

Privacy by default
There is no account and the city index is bundled with the site. An approximate IP-derived city can be selected automatically at first load. Cloudflare location data, trusted proxy headers or a server-side provider (IPWhois by default) may be used; a provider receives the IP needed for the lookup, while the raw IP is never returned to page JavaScript. Precise browser geolocation starts only when requested. If the operator enables Google Analytics, the supplied Google tag controls collection. Daylight Now itself does not emit city-search text or precise coordinates as custom analytics events. A submitted feedback record stores the IP address, user agent, browser, operating-system and device category, language and submission time. Additional display, locale, time-zone and query-free page details are stored only when the visitor leaves that option enabled; GPS, city-search text and full referrers are excluded.

Understanding the light
What does “daylight left” mean?
For an ordinary day, it is the estimated time from now until sunset at the selected city. During polar day or polar night, Daylight Now explains the exceptional condition instead of showing a misleading countdown.
Is civil dusk the same as sunset?
No. Sunset is when the sun crosses the horizon. Civil dusk comes later, when the centre of the sun reaches six degrees below the horizon and useful natural light is fading.
Why can a published forecast differ by a few minutes?
Daylight Now calculates from city-centre coordinates and standard solar geometry. Elevation, local terrain, buildings, atmospheric refraction and a different coordinate can shift an observed time.
Does Daylight Now share my precise location?
No. On a normal visit, Daylight Now may use Cloudflare location data, trusted proxy headers or a server-side IP provider to select an approximate city; that provider receives the IP needed for its lookup, but the site does not return the raw IP to browser JavaScript. Precise browser geolocation is requested only after you choose that action, and coordinates are not sent as custom analytics events.
Does Daylight Now work in polar regions?
Yes. The solar model detects polar day and polar night, then presents finite, readable fallbacks when a normal sunrise or sunset does not occur.
